Illuminati refers to several groups, both historical and modern, and both real and fictitious. There is historical reference to the Enlightenment-era secret society founded on May 1st, 1776 known as the Bavarian Illuminati. This society was dedicated to the systematic and silent conquest of nations. Illuminati also refers to a conspiratorial organization which acts as a mysterious power behind the throne, allegedly controlling world affairs through present day governments and corporations, usually as a modern incarnation or continuation of the Bavarian Illuminati. In present day the Illuminati is used in reference to the New World Order (NWO). Many conspiracy theorists believe the Illuminati are the masterminds behind events that will lead to the establishment of a New World Order.
Conspiracy theorists such as David Icke, Ryan Burke and Morgan Gricar, have argued that the Bavarian Illuminati survived, possibly to this day. Many of these theories propose that world events are being controlled and manipulated by a secret society calling itself the Illuminati. David Wilcock of Divine Cosmos claims to have met with members of the Illuminati.
It is believed that the modern day Illuminati are the code-makers and the ones who pull the strings of our very social situation. They have controlled our weather, made elections happen and taken control of our financial markets.
In the metaphysical world it is believed that there is an increasing vibrational consciousness of the planet that is starting to bring mass awareness to the integrity of our leaders. They can no longer hide in the dark and therefore, they are losing their power. You can see it happening now with the fall of our leaders in Churches, business, and in Government. When those who would conspire against you have fewer places to hide, they show themselves. New Age Thinkers believe there will be more integrity within the ranks of those who lead the planet on a spiritual level.
The Illuminati are central to the plots of many novels such as, The Illuminatus! Trilogy novels by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson, Dan Brown’s novel Angels & Demons, The Fallen Angels by Susannah Kells & Bernard Cornwell, and The Illuminati by Larry Burkett.
The Illuminati have also been featured in the plots of many comic book series. In Marvel comics a faction of the most influential heroes of the Marvel Universe formed a group called the Illuminati. In the DC universe, Vandal Savage is known to have served as the leader of Illuminati.
The Illuminati have also appeared in film and on TV. They are central to the plot of the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie, a film adaptation of the popular video game series by the same name. In the Disney’s animated television show Gargoyles, the Illuminati have existed for over 1,000 years, with a heavy hand in the world of organized crime. To hint at the scope of their power and influence, the character David Xanatos is referred to as a “lower echelon member.”
The Illuminati also figure prominently in plot lines of many video games such as: Deus Ex, its sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War, Area-51, and Resident Evil 4.
